Playing with poems
The ‘Playing with Poems’ project involved Polly working with 12 Hull primary schools to teach pupils and staff how to write and direct their own plays. Each class was asked to choose a poem as inspiration for a play. It could be a simple re-telling of the story, a totally new story inspired by characters from a poem or anything else that linked to the poem. Polly visited each class on four occasions. The first involved brainstorming ideas and how to use them to plan a sequence of scenes. The second workshop looked at writing scripts, the third involved Polly helping children to edit their scripts and make them ‘stage-ready’. The final workshop was all about performing the plays and Polly gave hints and tips on how simple techniques could be used to make a play more interesting to watch. Finally, all of the schools came together to share their plays and the scripts were then bound into a book that was made available to all involved. |
